Forthcoming Events

GECAG generally holds two or three workshops or demonstrations each year and occasional fundraising events. Please find below the program of Paint-outs which are available for all to participate in free of charge. Please see below for details of the paint-outs and upcoming workshops.

Paint Out Program

The GECAG Paint-outs take place on the second Saturday of each month. The meeting time is 10.00am and we paint until 12.00. The paint out is often followed by a visit to a local café. Participation in the Paint-outs is free. Please register your participation on Trybooking by 6.00pm on the Friday before the scheduled paint-out.

Live Model Pastel Painting Demonstration

FREE EVENT

Join award-winning Melbourne artist, Barbara McManus, for a special live model pastel painting demonstration, as part of the Creative Currents Annual Exhibition at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery.

Watch as Barbara shares her approach to portrait and figurative painting and demonstrates the creative process from observation to finished artwork. Visitors are welcome to bring a sketchbook and sketch along during the session.

Suitable for artists and students of all experience levels and who use different medium as well as art enthusiasts.

About Barbara McManus

Barbara McManus is an award-winning Melbourne artist and respected tutor with more than 30 years of teaching experience. Known for her expressive Impressionist style in oils and pastels, she is highly regarded for her portraiture and figurative works.

Barbara is a recipient of the  prestigious AME Bale Travelling Scholarship and was a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. She is a Fellow of the Victorian Artists Society and has works held in private collections throughout Australia and overseas.

Learning from the Masters

10.00am - 3.30pm

 Through some examples of the great masters John Singer Sargent and JMW Turner we will examine their marvellous watercolour techniques to improve your own painting and elevate your understanding of the medium of watercolour. In the course of the study will revise wash techniques, study of values, colour mixing, perspective and atmospheric perspective, compositional devices, angel of viewpoint, the use and application of various type soft brushes, paper type and format. We will emulate their techniques & processes and we will create 2 paintings that put their practices into action.
