Current GECAG Members

Membership entitles you to join our professionally tutored classes or join the Life Drawing Class. It also enables you to participate in our Annual Art Exhibition and in the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Your personal Membership Card will allow you to enjoy GECAG’s demonstrations and workshops at reduced rates and give you discounts at various art supply stores.

Term 4 classes will commence on Monday October 18th and conclude on Friday October 17th..

FEES

Class Fees, Joining and Membership Fees

Our group has a once only Joining Fee, an annual Membership Fee and Class Term Fee.

Joining Fee (payable once only)

Adults and Teens $25
Child $15

Membership Fee (payable annually)

Adults $50
Teen/Child $25

Class Fees (per term) Refer to individual classes below for the fee for that class.

Class fees are payable two weeks prior to class commencement each term.

Enrolling in a second class will entitle you to a $10 discount on the second class.

Refunds

Please choose your class carefully as GECAG cannot be responsible for any changes in your circumstances.

Refunds will be issued if at least seven days’ notice is given prior to the term commencing. An administration fee of $20 will be deducted from all refunds.

Drawing Fundamentals

Monday mornings 10.00am – 12.00pm

Term 4 October 18 – December 17, 2021

Fee: $130 (9 week term)

Danielle teaches drawing fundamentals by creating exercises that use the basics of drawing like tone, line, value and perspective which also introduces her students to a variety of mediums and using them in creative ways. This class is ideal for those who have always wanted to learn not only drawing, but also gain an introduction to further study like painting.

Life Drawing Session (untutored)

Monday afternoons 12.30pm – 3.00pm

Fee: $130 (9 week term)

The Life Class is untutored. This session is suitable for beginners through to the more experienced artist. A life model will provide a range of poses and participants can work in their chosen medium.

Please note that this class is not currently running due to COVID restrictions.

Watercolour

Tuesday mornings 10.00am – 12.30pm

Term 4 October 18 – December 17, 2021

Fee: $160 (9 week term)

My watercolour class on a Tuesday morning caters to all skill levels and teaches basic watercolour techniques, colour mixing, values, textures, composition, drawing, using the right brush and advice on the use of materials and equipment. We cover a wide range of subjects, including landscape, seascape and boats, figures, street scenes, still life, animals and interiors. I have been teaching this class for 16 years at GECAG, as of 2021.

Suitable for all levels.

Oil Painting and Pastels Class

Fee: $130 (9-week term)

This painting class enables you to work in either paints (oil or acrylic) or pastels.  The subject matter may be still life, landscapes, or portraits.  Still life setups are available to paint, or you may prefer to work from a photo reference.

Everyone works at their own pace.

If you have wanted to start painting but have not had a lot of experience, or you are slightly anxious about it, then feel free to come along for a trial class.  I am sure you will enjoy working in this stress-free environment with other like- minded people.

Wednesday mornings 10.00 – 12.00pm

Term 4 October 18 – December 17, 2021

Fee: $130 (9-week term)

In this class, Sandra guides her students as they work on their own individual projects. Collaborating with reference photos and still life. Exploration of materials including pastels, charcoal, oil, acrylic and watercolour...amongst others, is encouraged.
Sandra’s extensive tutoring experience in drawing & sketching, watercolour, oils & acrylic, ceramics and Calligraphy, covers any technique for portraiture, landscape or still life. Skill level can be from beginners through to advanced students.

Art for Wellbeing

Art for Wellbeing is a mixed media class devoted to finding the ways of self-expression, developing skills in different media, and creating realistic, abstract, and meditative works of art. Together with drawing, painting, collage, students are also introduced to some useful wellbeing practices. This class is open to adult students with any level of artistic skill.

Children’s Creative Art (10-14 age group)

Sandra Marasco

Wednesday afternoons 4.30pm-6.30pm

 

Fee: $130 (9-week term)

Engaging young artists to make art in a studio environment, Sandra endeavours to unlock their creativity whether it be exploring colour or constructing geometric shapes.  Here we learn perseverance and lateral thinking.  Children progress at their own pace with individual and personalised instruction to develop the tools needed to gain confidence in their artwork.  Expressive mark-making is highly encouraged.  Drawing increases visual literacy and the arts have the power to transform the lives of young people.

Since 2009, Sandra has provided 1000’s of hand-drawn images and paintings for her young students. Guided by their interests including animation, fashion illustration, landscape and animals.

There are no material lists for the Children’s classes as we provide all the materials.

Acrylics and Watercolour

Craig Penny

Thursday Mornings 9.30am-11.30am

Term 4 October 18 – December 17, 2021

Fee: $130 (9-week term)

This class is for all skill levels and participants can work with either acrylic or watercolour. Craig provides students with an image to work from, discussing how to draw it up and ways in which the composition of the photograph can be simplified or improved upon. Subjects include landscapes, seascapes, street scenes and still life. In each class, Craig completes an artwork, demonstrating his approach to the subject from the first marks to the last in either acrylic or  watercolour. Students paint along in between each ‘step’ of the work. If a student only works with one medium, Craig provides additional guidance on the days he is demonstrating the other medium.

Pen and Ink

Lisa Murphy

Thursday Evenings 7.00pm – 9.00pm

Term 4 October 18 – December 17, 2021

Fee: $130 (9-week term)

This class is for beginners and those with some experience. Discover the wonderful versatility of ink as a creative medium. Learn how to apply ink with confidence, controlling where you place it, but also allowing it to run across the page in swathes and bleeds, adding new dimensions of interest and beauty to your work. Students will learn various techniques on ink application including washes and layering, line and tonal work through exercises and demonstrations in class. Students will also have the opportunity to introduce new dimensions to their ink work with collage, gold leaf, cling wrap, charcoal and masking fluid, to name a few.   As students become confident with the fundamentals of ink, you will be encouraged to also work on your own projects, with my guidance.

The Art of Painting Oils and Acrylics

Friday mornings 10.30am – 12.30pm

Term 4 October 18 – December 17, 2021

Fee: $130 (9-week term)

I teach in an informal friendly style and move around the group discussing successes and challenges of each student's work. Painting  must be enjoyable even though it can also be hard work. I find that painting in a group provides a social connection as well as sharing of ideas and knowledge. You will build the skills and confidence to develop your ideas- drawing and painting at your own pace. Beginners and those with more experience will be guided in the medium of their choice, to find an individual style, and create finished pictures. The fundamentals of composition, colour and tone will be taught as they apply to your work. Class tuition covers different techniques in oils and acrylics.

Open Studio for Members

Thursdays - 1pm-4pm, cost $5.00 per session. December 9th and 16th.
